SCR 3-1083

SCR 3-1083: Increase length of SOURCE_PRODUCT_ID keyword

Priority: high

Problem Summary

CRISM labels include a list of SPICE kernel file names in the SOURCE_PRODUCT_ID field. Current limit on SOURCE_PRODUCT_ID is 40 characters, but MRO SPICE kernels can have names as long as 45 characters. NAIF (Boris) says this is not unusual — there have been SPICE file names with 53 characters. (NAIF converts them to 27.3 for archiving.) I propose to increase the maximum length of SOURCE_PRODUCT_ID to 100 characters.

a

ATMOS says yea to option a and yea to option b should option a fail.

b

(to implementation stage); Although I still believe it would be better to increase the length of the entire class rather than taking this one-by-one approach, which only serves to introduce more inconsistencies.

c

Though it still seems strange to increase the length of one thing in a class without increasing the entire class of keywords.

d

“(b) submitted for MC vote” to follow recent practices.
