Telecon Discussions:
1. SCR status:
- SCR3-1116: Align Online PSDD with pdsdd.full
WG: E. Rye (lead), J. Ho, R. Joyner, D. Simpson
- no progress
- status updated to PARKED
- SCR3-1126: Multiple occurences of the same keyword in an object - Valid or Not?
WG: T. King (lead), M. Cayanan, L. Huber, S. Hughes, D. Simpson
- no progress
- Todd King asked if there were any copies of the SCR available as he and others remembered there being some, but nothing posted on web site. E. Rye discovered 3 versions already written.
- Given existence of these SCRs, Todd asked to keep SCR open to allow WG chance to review them.
- E. Rye to post existing SCRs on web site
- WG will review SCRs and determine whether to move forward
- Note fom Anne: the keywords that one of her missions (Rosetta?) wanted to repeat are NOTE and DESC.
- SCR3-1127: Pointer/Object Ambiguity in the Standards Reference
WG: T. King (lead), M. Cayanan, L. Huber, S. Hughes, R. Joyner
- no progress
- WG to review posted SCRs and determine further action
- SCR3-1135: PDF/A as a potential replacement for TEXT documents
WG: L. Huber (lead), P. Garcia, R. Joyner, T. King
- attempt to hold WG meeting failed; will attempt against to schedule a meeting
- SCR3-1140: Update StdRef to bring ADD reqs. in alignment with PAG and APG
WG: E. Rye (lead), R. Joyner, D. Simpson
- no progress
- update status to PARKED
- SCR3-1141: Increase DATA_QUALITY_ID to 16 characters
WG: R. Chen (lead), E. Rye
- no progress
- E. Rye to write up and send out existing proposed solution
- SCR3-1143: Add "DVD+R" to list of acceptable physical media formats
characters
WG: R. Chen (lead), E. Rye
- no progress
- Dick notes that he is using this primarily as a transfer medium rather than an archive medium
- Elizabeth reports that she heard from Dan that DVD+R is now apparently better than DVD-R (not clear exactly what is meant by "better") This was contested by various group members. Anne notes that "error correction code" on DVD+R is not as robust as on DVD-R; Lyle and Susie both report problems with DVD+R format; many agree that there is no ideal formal.
- Susie(?) mentioned that there had been a white paper put out by the EN on this (from the media working group).
- Is this a moot issue if PDS is moving away from physical media for archiving purposes?
- Group decided to update status to PARKED and move to the PDS4 queue. This will only be relevant to PDS4 if physical media continue to be used for archiving. In that case, issues with double layer media also need to be addressed.
- SCR3-1145: PSDD Filename Length Clean-Up
WG: S. Slavney (lead), M. Gordon, R. Joyner, E. Rye
- New SCR presented by Dick.
- SCR3-1144 failed to note required changes to PSDD, so Dick details these changes in the current SCR.
- E. Rye needs to update database to remove Dick from working group and make Susie the lead.
- WG needs to investigate past usage of filename to see if it was always used for files internal to the archive. (I.e. are there valid cases for filename lengths larger than those permitted in PDS archives?)
2. Further Issues:
- PDF version of PSDD
- Mitch Gordon provided an initial review of the PDF version of the PSDD and recommended some changes to the "static" portions of the document. Elizabeth had intended to leave these updates until after the initial publication of the PDF version and sought group feedback on this decision. Group agreed. Elizabeth suggested providing a comment in the preface to the effect that we recognize the necessity for further updates but wanted to move forward with publication pending those udpates. Group again agreed.
Next telecon scheduled for 2008-11-12.
