The keywords are mentioned in the last paragraph of Section A.20 of the Standards Reference but are not included as optional keywords. We specified high priority because this issue affects the international community, including the ESA/Rosetta archive." I don't think we should encourage the proliferation of SCRs that are not really needed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Date: May 2, 2007 10:00:38 AM PDT To: Subject: Re: SCR ready for consideration and e-votes; end on EOD 20070509 > How say you, each Node, (e.g., yea, nea, abstain): > > (1) SCR 3-1102.v2: Expand the optional keyword list for the IMAGE >object (A.Raugh) > (a) yes; move to the implementation stage > (b) yes; submit for MC vote > (c) nea > (d) abstain Atmospheres says (a). We don't use NASAView at PPI, so from our perspective NASAView could be deprecated (no longer changed). -Todd- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Mitch Gordon Date: May 2, 2007 10:46:17 AM PDT To: "PDS Technical Group" Cc: PDS Technical Group Subject: Re: SCR ready for consideration and e-votes; end on EOD 20070509 Reply-To: Mitch Gordon > (1) SCR 3-1102.v2: Expand the optional keyword list for the IMAGE object (A.Raugh) > (a) yes; move to the implementation stage > (b) yes; submit for MC vote > (c) nea > (d) abstain Rings votes yes option (a) Mitch ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: raugh@astro.umd.edu (Anne Raugh) Date: May 3, 2007 4:15:30 AM PDT To: "PDS Technical Group" Subject: RE: SCR ready for consideration and e-votes; end on EOD 20070509 Reply-To: raugh@astro.umd.edu (Anne Raugh) > My recommendation is that NASAView not be updated unless it is > actively used. As far as I know, NASAView is the only piece of free software out there that can display a raster image with an attached PDS label. As long as PDS is producing such files and there is no outside support, NASAView has to work and work well. -Anne. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Susan Slavney" Date: May 3, 2007 7:27:37 AM PDT To: "PDS Technical Group" Subject: RE: SCR ready for consideration and e-votes; end on EOD 20070509 Reply-To: "Susan Slavney" We use it frequently for images and tables, though it is admittedly clunky. It's not obsolete until we have something better for its replacement. I use NASAView frequently, and it is also referenced in many data product SISs as being provided by PDS for viewing those particular data sets. - Betty ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Anne Raugh" Date: May 3, 2007 11:23:00 AM PDT To: Cc: , , , , Subject: Re: SCR ready for consideration and e-votes; end on EOD 20070509 SCR 3-1107: Expand the Optional Keyword list for the IMAGE Object (Specifically, add LINE_DISPLAY_DIRECTION and SAMPLE_DISPLAY_DIRECTION, with a requirement that NASAView also be updated to recognize and correctly apply these values.) Steven Hughes" o Regarding active use, the latest download statistics for NASAView are: Jan - 126 Feb - 188 Mar - 142 Apr - 130 o There is also an applicable Level 3 Requirement. 3.3.2 PDS will provide a capability for opening and inspecting the contents (e.g. label, objects, groups) of any PDS compliant archival product o On a related issue, namely the Object Access Library (OAL), - Almost all standard widely used data formats have such libraries for reading and writing data. For example the FITS format has FITS I/O libraries and likewise for HDFn, and CDF. - The Object Access Library (OAL) fills this role. It was developed by a team led by Randy Davis on contract to the PDS. - NASAView is simply a multi-platform GUI that uses the OAL to read PDS data products. - When a new data format (data structure) is proposed for the PDS archive the process for approving the new format currently requires that the algorithm for reading the data be implemented in the OAL. This allows NASAView/OAL to be used to validate that the label correctly describes the data object. I.e. If NASAView can open and display an IMAGE or TABLE, then beyond knowing that the label is syntactically and semantically correct, we also know that the data can be read into memory, converted for use on the host platform, and used. (Note: The software includes over 50 routines for converting values between different hardware platforms.) - The PDS-D product servers use the OAL for data product transformation. (e.g. PDS-to-JPEG) - We can use NASAView/OAL as one indicator for determining the core PDS data formats. steve ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Dick Simpson 650-723-3525" Date: May 3, 2007 3:00:38 PM PDT To: Subject: Re: SCR ready for consideration and e-votes; end on EOD 20070509 >(1) SCR 3-1102.v2: Expand the optional keyword list for the IMAGE >object (A.Raugh) > (a) yes; move to the implementation stage > (b) yes; submit for MC vote > (c) nea > (d) abstain I think (c) should be "nay" RS votes "yes" for (a), "no" for the others. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Patricia A Garcia Date: May 3, 2007 6:00:05 PM PDT To: "PDS Technical Group" Cc: "PDS Technical Group" Subject: RE: SCR ready for consideration and e-votes; end on EOD 20070509 Reply-To: Patricia A Garcia Susie's comments apply to Imaging as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Susan Slavney" Date: May 4, 2007 11:16:16 AM PDT To: "'Ronald Joyner'" Subject: RE: SCR ready for consideration and e-votes; end on EOD 20070509 Geo votes (a) yes; move to the implementation stage. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Boris Semenov" Date: May 4, 2007 3:12:18 PM PDT To: "Ronald Joyner" Cc: Subject: Re: SCR ready for consideration and e-votes; end on EOD 20070509 Ron -- NAIF votes (a) -- yes; move to the implementation stage. Until the Tech Session ammends the current procedure (in written form), simple majority will continue (where One Node has One Vote). (1) Using simple majority, here is the summary of the SCR votes: (a) SCR 3-1102.v2: Expand the optional keyword list for the IMAGE object (A.Raugh) - SCR passed (implementation = 9; MC = 0) (2) Based on the above vote, I am sending 3-1102.v2 directly into implementation. (3) I will submit 1(a) to J.Ho for implementation. (4) I will ensure that 1(a) is implemented in accordance with the SCR. The above changes will be reflected in the online database almost immediately. The next release of the data dictionary (pdsdd.full) will reflect the same changes made to the online database.
